By 1974 the team of Mini Gym had developed several other applications from the Mini Gym such as the leaper, the swim bench and the knee unit. The Mini Gym leaper was highly successful with athletes and sports teams at colleges, universities and among the professional teams. The Isokinetic principle of the leaper has proven itself with the satisfactory development of strength as well as the quick rehabilitation of sports injuries.
Over the last 30 years hundreds of research projects have been conducted on the leaper and Isokinetic exercise programs of Mini Gym and almost all projects have shown that the leaper Isokinetic resistance develops more strength, quicker reflexes and rehabilitates injuries more effectively in less time than other systems. The development of the Mini Gym leaper has had enormous success with the conditioning of high school and college basketball players. Articles were written about the jumping improvement and greater quickness on the floor of All-American athlete, Kent Benson, after he used the leaper during the summer before returning to his senior year at the University of Indiana and revealed that he was jumping 4-6 inches higher than before. Mini Gym advises that the University of Indiana won the NCAA championship in that year.
Mini Gym indicates that this success created a new approach to fast speed resistance exercise and many schools purchased the leaper and experienced huge improvement from their players. Mini Gym worked tirelessly to produce leaper products when almost every High School and University ordered a leaper during the 70s and 80s. From basketball to most athletic sports, the leaper has been given the credit for revolutionizing the quickness of players' reflexes and dunking that exists in the sport today.
Super Mini Gym and the leaper train athletes in specific ways and there is no substitute for the fast speed isokinetic exercise that develops white quick twitch muscle fibers achieved on the leaper and Mini Gym. An important advantage with the isonkinetic exercises for legs is that athletes are much stronger in their extended range than in the pull squat position because of skeletal leverage. With the leaper from Mini Gym, the user can move through this range of motion quickly and safely.
The leaper is constantly adjusting to the user since it makes the exact proportionate resistance with every rep. Tiring exercisers can safely work the extended range with each succeeding rep as they begin to experience fatigue.
Mini Gym suggests that big improvements have been made with the design of an LCD readout device for the new model Super II Mini Gym and the leaper. Mini Gym indicates that 50,000 Mini Gym and 10,000 leaper products have been sold worldwide and the new LCD models measure power as each rep is exercised, count reps, provide time reading for exercise time, measure work in foot pounds of all reps and provide an average work number for all reps completed. The installation of a strain gauge more recently accurately measures the range of motion for therapy evaluation which helps with insurance claims.
